The Coble Courier Organisation was established in 2005 and is run by a dedicated “Steering Group Committee” of volunteer members and drivers who want to make a difference to their community by providing an affordable service to the local residents through a community bus scheme, for local groups and residents of Staithes, Cowbar, Hinderwell and the outlying parishes of Runswick, Roxby, Dalehouse, Boulby, Port Mulgrave and Borrowby. The Coble Courier also aims to give particular help to those who are isolated by providing affordable access to local amenities.
Currently our mini bus is used by a variety of local groups and organisations such as, the local Fisherman’s Choir, Arts and Crafts Group, Church led Organisations, The local WI, School children’s outings, etc, who all use it on a regular basis.
In addition to hiring the bus, we also organise trips to the Theatre, Stately Homes, Garden Centres etc; plus we provide a regular door to door shopping trip to Redcar, The latter has proved invaluable to the more elderly residents who do not have their own transport, or are unable to use public transport because of mobility problems which mean they cannot reach the bus stop. We help them to remain independent and also provide much needed social contact, which helps them maintain friendships and is beneficial to their mental, physical and emotional well being. In addition, several of our elderly passengers actually shop for neighbours who struggle to leave their homes and this social contact with extremely isolated and vulnerable members of our community is a real lifeline for them and also helps maintain a sense of “community”
